Joe Giannetti has spent much of his life chasing excellence in combat sports. But behind Skeletor is a husband, father, coach, gym owner and lifelong martial artist building something meant to last far beyond the final bell.

BUILT THROUGH THE FIGHT GAME.

Long before Giannetti Martial Arts existed, fighting was already a major part of Joe Giannetti's life. Years of training, competition and professional MMA took him from the regional scene to The Ultimate Fighter and some of the biggest opportunities of his career.

But the fight game became about more than wins and losses. The experiences, setbacks and lessons collected along the way shaped the way Joe approaches coaching, business and life.

In 2020, while already an established professional fighter, Joe built a home training space during the uncertainty of the pandemic. What started as a place to keep training eventually became the foundation for Giannetti Martial Arts. A gym built around the knowledge and culture developed through years inside the fight game.

Today, Joe continues to compete while balancing life as a husband, father, coach and gym owner. The goal is bigger than building a fight record. It's about building a legacy inside the cage, through GMA, and through the people he helps along the way.

THE NAME BEHIND THE FIGHTER

WHY "SKELETOR"?

Every fighter has a name. Some are chosen. Others just stick.

The nickname goes all the way back to my second amateur fight.

At the time, we thought I was going to be a 145-pounder, so I was fighting at 150 pounds. By the end of camp I was so skinny and my face was so sucked out that my friends spent the entire week telling me I looked like Skeletor.

Fight night came at a small local promotion that doesn't even exist anymore. In the locker room, the ring announcer asked me what my nickname was. I told him I didn't know. My coach at the time always picked our nicknames, usually completely at random, so I pointed him toward my coach and went back to getting ready.

Then I walked into the cage.

“JOE ‘SKELETOR’ GIANNETTI.”

I immediately looked over at my coach completely surprised.

After I won the fight, I asked him if he'd been talking to my friends. He had no idea what I was talking about. I explained that they'd been calling me Skeletor all week and somehow, without knowing any of that, he'd randomly given the exact same nickname to the announcer.

His response was simple:

“It's meant to be then.”

And that was it.

Skeletor was born.

ALMOST "JERSEY SHORE JOE"

My first amateur nickname was "Jersey Shore Joe" because I was tan and Italian. Thankfully, that one didn't stick.
BEYOND THE CAGE

BUILDING SOMETHING BIGGER.

Fighting has always been about chasing something, the next win, the next opportunity, the next level. Over time, that pursuit started creating something bigger than one person's fight career.

Giannetti Martial Arts grew from a home training space into a community where Joe could pass on the knowledge, lessons and mentality collected through years of professional competition. Today, coaching the next generation and building GMA has become another part of the mission.

Becoming a husband and father added another perspective. Success isn't only about what happens inside the cage anymore. It's about creating something his family can be proud of, building opportunities for the people around him and leaving behind something that continues long after his own fighting career ends.

The fight career won't last forever. What I build because of it can.

Fighting is what I do, but it’s not everything I’m into. When I’m not training, coaching or spending time with family, you’ll probably find me gaming, watching anime or hanging out with the Evil Army. The Barracks is where that side of the community comes together.

THE STORY ISN'T FINISHED.

There are chapters already written — The Ultimate Fighter, championships, professional MMA, Karate Combat, boxing, building Giannetti Martial Arts and becoming a father. But none of them were meant to be the ending.

Joe is still competing. Still building. Still chasing the highest level of the sport while creating something that can outlast his time inside the cage.
